The Fatherless Daughter Empowerment Project
...is a constellation of programs that include The Fatherless Daughters Speak Out, a 90--minute workshop created in collaboration with a team of clinicians, community activists and artists for girls aged 13 through 17 that deploys and seeks to achieve four major goals: 1)educate participants about the consequences of father absence while offering them insights into the five factors of The Fatherless Daughter Syndrome as originally codified in the book Whatever Happened to Daddy's Little Girl?: The Impact of Fatherlessness on Black Women; 2)offer teen participants a platform to share their personal father absence experiences; 3) provide critical and effective tools to aid in healing their emotional and mental health; and 4) create a peer support group that can help participants progress through any future challenges. The Gift: An Interactive Arts Healing and Reconciliation Experience is for women aged 18 and older who grew up without their fathers and who are still struggling with that trauma in their lives including in personal and professional relationships; this program occurs in a retreat style setting, that deploys a unique rotational presentation where each participant is guided through a set of tasks designed to address her challenges while setting a goal for self-actualization and empowerment. The Gift is presented by a combination of clinicians, healing artists and certified life coaches. Soaring Sisters is a quarterly networking program for women 18 and older that aims to assist participants in reaching the next level in their personal lives through flash and/or sustained engagement with women business and cultural leaders. Family Matters is a community education program that seeks to educate the public about the importance of family and, where there is estrangement, to provide the tools and guidance for reconciliation.
