About the event
'At last we grasp the long lasting effects of father absence through the voices of confident and powerful teen girls," writes Ana Acevedo in the Preface of the groundbreaking book "Discovering Me...Without You: Teen Girls Speak About Father Absence."
On April 4, Esther Productions Inc. Books releases this new and powerful collection of essays written by young ladies ages 14 -17 who live in the Washington Metropolitan Region. Mostly from communities of color, these authors share their pain, their challenges and their determination to realize their dreams, despite the trauma of father absence. Some fathers abandoned their daughters for no reason--except perhaps they were unprepared for the enormous responsibility of parenthood. Others were deported, snatched from their children's lives as those children looked on in horror and pain. Mothers, aunts, grandfathers and other surrogates stepped in to try to fill the void. In nearly every case, however, these young ladies lament they did not have the opportunity to know and grow with their fathers.
Come April 4 from 11:30 to 1pm meet the authors and celebrate the release of this powerful publication, which is a testament to their resilence.
